Fox has launched Gort Lives, a fan-art contest tied to its upcoming SF remake movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Fans are asked to send in their artwork depicting what they think Gort--the alien robot sent to destroy Earth--should look like. The highest-rated fan entries will be displayed at IMAX theaters, where Earth will play, as well as on a future DVD.

The recently released five-minute extended trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still features a good look at the new Gort as he'll appear in the movie. Earth, which stars Jennifer Connelly and Keanu Reeves, opens Dec. 12.
