Hertfordshire Has The Most Relaxing Room On The Planet-Public Opening Tomorrow

relax-room_300.jpgThe room features soft green lighting, artificial blue skies, the scent of lavender in the breeze and the dulcet tones of a low frequency lullaby capable of soothing the most savage of beasts.

Creator and psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman said: "The pace of modern-day life, credit crunch and financial crisis is making many people feel very stressed and so we have created this space to help them relax."

The University of Hertfordshire's de Havilland campus is opening its mellowing multimedia attraction to the public as part of its Health and Human Sciences Research Institute Showcase on October 24th.

Visitors to the exhibition can enjoy a 15-minute session in the relaxing room and experience the "mild sensory deprivation" that the University claims could benefit "students facing exams and businesses wishing to lower their employees' stress-related absenteeism".

Prof Wiseman said: "Previous work has shown that these colours, sounds and smells all help people relax, but this is the first time that they have been combined in this way, and it will be fascinating to look at the effect on visitors' relaxation levels."

Doctor Who director plans new superhero series inspired by Marvel comics

Heroes300.jpgThe series, to be called Superpower, is being written for BBC One by former Doctor Who director Joe Ahearne, who said he had been inspired by his love for Marvel comics. Ahearne's other writing credits include the Channel 4 sci-fi series Ultraviolet and the upcoming BBC supernatural drama Apparitions, which he has also directed.

The BBC has already seen the massive global success of the US show Heroes (pictured), which it broadcasts on BBC2.

The new show is planned for a primetime Saturday night slot on BBC One. Scripts have been commissioned, with Impossible Pictures, the company behind ITV's Primeval, on board to make it.

Ahearne said each episode would have a standalone story and told The Stage that Superpower would be unlike all other British superhero shows, which tended to be spoofs: "It is a new and original superhero idea which is not a send-up. There is a particular gimmick in mine, which I won't give away, but it means it will be refreshed every episode."

William Shatner hits out at George Takei after wedding snub

William Shatner (Captain Kirk), star of the classic Sixties sci-fi series, has laid into former co-star George Takei (lieutenant Sulu) after Takei failed to invite him to his wedding.

Shatner launched the broadside during a video interview posted on his blog site, in which he blames his onetime co-star's snub on a "sickness" and a "psychosis", although there is no indication that Takei has ever suffered from a mental illness.

Games News - LucasArts Announces Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO

swtor_screen-150x150.jpgThe publisher is teaming up with developer BioWare for the third time, as well as publishing giant Electronic Arts with the emphasis on the story. They described the story as the "fourth pillar" that has yet to be explored in online games. "The Old Republic" will tell a "powerful" story set thousands of years before the "Star Wars" movies. It's the same setting as the popular "Knights of the Old Republic" games.

Players will be able to pick Jedi or Sith characters, select from different factions, and build a team of companion characters to accompany them on their questing.

There's no indication of when it will be coming out, but BioWare already has a number of games in the pipeline, including two sequels to Xbox 360's brilliant Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins for the PC.
