Tennant quits Doctor Who

October 30, 2008 10:06 AM

So it finally seems that the story of the summer has finally revealed its killer punch and the search for a new Doctor can begin. There have been countless articles calling time on Tennant's tenure but this time there is a Russell T Davis quote to add validity.

The announcement was made at the National Television Awards last night.

"In January I go back to make four new specials which take Doctor Who through to the end of 2009," he said. "But when Doctor Who returns in 2010, it won't be with me. The 2009 shows will be my last playing the Doctor."

Tennant added: "If I don't take a deep breath now and move on, I never will. I think it's best I don't outstay my welcome."

Of course, Moffat is the main man now tasked with finding Tennant's replacement he teased."You'll be hearing from us."

Davis added "We've known for a long while now.... Most of all, as a Doctor Who fan myself, [I'm] just excited about the future now."

Tennant will have been will have been the Doctor for 3 series and 8 specials.
