As part of SCI FI channel's "Visions for Tomorrow" public-affairs program--an initiative that uses the power of science fiction to create a more optimistic vision for the future--SCI FI channel is launching Howyoucansavetheworld.com, a new blog for ideas from visionaries, innovators and thought leaders. They will provide new viewpoints to address the challenges facing society, the SCI FI channel announced.

"The SCI FI channel's blog, Howyoucansavetheworld.com is a balance between commentary and reporting, providing real perspectives from today's most inventive minds on how to positively impact the future," Dave Howe, the SCI FI channel's president, said in a statement. "SCI FI's goal is to inspire individuals, organizations and corporations to take the first steps in shaping future choices by joining the conversation."

Howyoucansavetheworld.com launches with posts discussing everything from space exploration and innovation by Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group. Michio Kaku, co-founder of string-field theory, talks about energy consumption and its effect on civilization. Futurist Edie Weiner blogs about the future of education. Actor and environmentalist Anton Yelchin discusses his obsession with prairie dogs in Albuquerque, N.M., while on the set of Terminator Salvation.

Other topics on the SCI FI channel range from the upcoming presidential election to the state of public education and the media's role in the future. The list of contributors includes experts from the worlds of science, technology, design, journalism, film, television, business, government and future studies.
